What is a CNC lathe?

A CNC lathe is a computer-controlled machine tool where the workpiece rotates while cutting tools machine the material with high precision. Types of CNC lathes

Single-turret lathes

Single-revolution lathes have a single tool turret and two opposing spindles. They are the cost-effective choice for bar machining and medium-complexity parts where high speed is more important than the number of simultaneous operations. Nakamura-Tome SC-100X² is a good example - it is 41% faster than its predecessor thanks to overlapping spindle guidance.

Two-turret lathes

With dual turrets and dual spindles, two-turret lathes can machine both ends of a workpiece simultaneously, cutting cycle times in half for many parts. Multitasking answering machines

Multitasking lathes combine turning and milling in one machine, often with three turrets and Y-axis on each. They replace multiple machines and eliminate rechucking, reducing both lead time and tolerance deviations. Nakamura-Tome NTY3-100V with three turrets and up to 72 tool stations is designed for industries such as electric vehicles, semiconductors and robotics.
